Parallel Diplomacy and the Strategy for Defending Territorial Integrity: A Reading of the Royal Speech and the Initiatives of “Diplomacy” Magazine

In the speech delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the opening of the new legislative year, His Majesty focused entirely on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, reflecting the strategic importance of this dossier, which remains a top national priority for the Kingdom of Morocco. The King mentioned recent international orientations that highlighted the support of major powers, such as the United States, France, and Spain, for Morocco’s stance on this issue. His Majesty also praised the development witnessed in the southern provinces and the growing number of consulates being opened by African and Arab countries.

Linking Citizenship to the Defense of Territorial Integrity One of the key points of the royal speech was the emphasis on linking true citizenship to the defense of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity. His Majesty outlined a clear roadmap for political and parliamentary actors, emphasizing the importance of using parallel diplomacy to strengthen the gains Morocco has achieved in this dossier. He also stressed the need for training and acquiring knowledge about the Moroccan Sahara issue, covering its political, economic, and historical dimensions.

“Diplomacy” Magazine: A Pioneer Platform for Defending National Causes In this context, it is essential to highlight the pioneering role that “Diplomacy” magazine has played over the past years in raising awareness and defending the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The magazine, published in three languages (Arabic, French, and English), has succeeded in attracting the attention of numerous prominent international figures, including heads of state, ambassadors, and even U.S. Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

Upcoming Initiatives in Amsterdam and Brussels Among the upcoming initiatives that the magazine is working on in collaboration with its partners, such as the “World Association of Moroccan Expatriates” and the “Sahrawi Observatory for Democracy and Media,” is a training workshop to be held in Amsterdam on November 6, coinciding with the anniversary of the Green March.

The aim of this workshop is to raise awareness among Moroccan expatriates about how to defend the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and to equip them with the necessary knowledge to counter campaigns targeting the Moroccan Sahara issue on the international stage.

Conclusion

The current developments in the Moroccan Sahara issue and the royal calls to strengthen parallel diplomacy place significant responsibility on national institutions to support serious initiatives like those undertaken by “Diplomacy” magazine.

It is essential that these institutions respond to this new dynamic to be part of the national efforts aimed at enhancing Morocco’s position and protecting its supreme interests. Therefore, it is required from the concerned parties not only to remove the bureaucratic obstacles that hinder these initiatives but also to provide the necessary support to ensure their success and strengthen their role in achieving the goals of national diplomacy and serving the Kingdom’s higher interests.
