Amazighs in the Netherlands Celebrate Their Identity in The Hague: Renewed Loyalty to Morocco and Its Ancient Culture

Under the slogan “Passing on Amazigh Culture to Future Generations,” the Dutch administrative capital, The Hague, witnessed a remarkable celebration of the Amazigh New Year, organized by the Moroccan-Dutch Institute for Parallel Diplomacy in partnership with the Federation of the Moroccan Community in the Netherlands on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

This event was not just a fleeting celebration but an opportunity to reinforce cultural and national values and to highlight the central role of the Moroccan community in preserving the Amazigh identity and strengthening its connection to the homeland, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him.

Official Presence Reflecting Royal Interest

The ceremony was graced by the presence of prominent figures, including Mr. Mohamed Bassri, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Netherlands, who emphasized in his speech the place that Amazigh holds in Morocco, citing the speech of His Majesty the King stressing the need to officialize the Amazigh language and teach it in educational institutions, within the framework of cultural diversity that makes Morocco a model of coexistence and national unity under one banner and one King.

The ceremony also saw the participation of Mr. Ahmed Aboutaleb, the former mayor of Rotterdam, who also highlighted the royal speeches supporting the Moroccan community abroad and confirming its active role in the prosperity of the Moroccan economy.

He also emphasized the importance of Amazigh culture as an integral part of the diverse cultural components of Morocco, which is a fundamental pillar in strengthening the ties between the Moroccan community and their homeland.

The ceremony was not just a cultural occasion but also carried deep national messages. Mr. Idriss Aboudals, president of the Moroccan-Dutch Institute for Parallel Diplomacy, emphasized the attachment of Moroccans in the Netherlands to the constants of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sanctuaries, stressing that members of the Moroccan community abroad are ambassadors of national identity, working through all available means to serve the homeland and enhance its cultural and diplomatic influence.
