Between Genuine Solidarity and Blind Hatred: Morocco Saves Lives in Spain… While Its Citizens Are Demonized in Tori Pacheco
From Tori Pacheco to Valencia: A Bitter Lesson in Political Hypocrisy
As the Moroccan community in Tori Pacheco, Murcia, was being subjected to a wave of xenophobic hysteria over an unresolved incident involving an elderly man, Morocco – from its King to its institutions and citizens – was extending a hand of solidarity to Spain, reeling from deadly floods in the southeast.
Just a few hundred kilometers away from the racist rhetoric targeting Moroccan immigrants, Moroccan rescue teams were arriving in Valencia with 25 aid trucks and over 70 emergency responders, following royal directives to assist Spain in the aftermath of storm “Dana”.

A town under fire, a community scapegoated
Tori Pacheco, long known for peaceful coexistence between Spaniards and immigrants, became a hotspot of hate. Unverified accusations, fake videos, manipulated images – all weaponized by far-right party VOX to paint Moroccan youth as a threat.
And worse still, these narratives weren’t confined to social media. Political figures echoed them publicly, calling for mass expulsions and spreading fear in what resembled a modern-day witch hunt.
Morocco acts. Spain stays silent.
Meanwhile, Morocco’s humanitarian aid was on the ground, operating with efficiency and dignity. Yet, not a single official Spanish statement condemned the rising hate speech targeting Moroccans, nor was there any gesture of support toward the community under fire.
A double standard no longer acceptable
Why is Moroccan solidarity accepted in times of need, yet Moroccan dignity ignored in times of injustice?
Why must goodwill be one-sided?
And what does this say about bilateral ties when one side’s citizens are vilified without defense?
Conclusion: Morocco douses flames, VOX fuels them
In the same week, Morocco saved lives. VOX spread hate.
And the Spanish authorities? Chose silence.
But one thing is clear:
Dignity cannot be traded. And silence in the face of hate is complicity.
