Importance of moving to second phase of Trump’s plan for Gaza was discussed.. Details of meeting between Egyptian and Palestinian foreign ministers in Jeddah

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, stressed the importance of moving to implement the second phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, pointing to the transitional and temporary nature of the components of the transitional phase produced by Security Council Resolution No. 2803, including the Palestinian Administrative Committee and the International Stabilization Force.

This came during a meeting between Minister Abdel-Aati and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, Farsin Aghabekian Shahin, within the framework of ongoing coordination and consultation between the two sides regarding the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Jeddah.

Supporting Palestinian Authority Reform

Minister Abdel-Aati emphasized the commitment to supporting the Palestinian Authority’s efforts to complete its reform program, enabling it to fulfill its duties and responsibilities in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

He stressed Egypt’s full support for the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority, reviewing the intensive efforts made by Egypt over the past two years to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid, alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, and thwart displacement plans.

He also stressed the importance of the Palestinian Administrative Committee assuming its duties as soon as possible to manage the daily affairs of the Palestinians and to provide basic services in the Gaza Strip.

International Stabilization Force in Gaza

Regarding the International Stabilization Force, Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of its temporary deployment to monitor the ceasefire.

Minister Abdel-Aati also stressed the importance of the unity of the Palestinian territories, including the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the need to confront any measures that would entrench the separation between them or undermine the chances of a two-state solution.

In this regard, he expressed Egypt’s deep concern about the Israeli escalation in the West Bank, the continuation of settlement practices, and the increasing rate of settler attacks, which pose a direct threat to the chances of achieving a just and lasting peace.

Appreciation for Egypt’s stance against displacement

For her part, the Palestinian Foreign Minister praised Egypt’s pivotal and historic role in supporting the Palestinian cause, commending its ongoing efforts to stop the war on the Gaza Strip and ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, as well as its firm stance against displacement attempts and its support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.

She also expressed her appreciation for the close coordination with the Egyptian side, stressing the importance of continuing this cooperation in the next stage in a way that contributes to protecting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and supporting the political solution based on the two-state solution.
