Jordan’s King Abdullah approves 4th general amnesty

Jordan’s King Abdullah II yesterday approved a “general amnesty” law presented to him by parliament.

According to a statement from the Royal Court: “Today, Tuesday, the royal decree was approved on the general amnesty law for the year 2024, in the form approved by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.”

Brigadier General Falah Al-Majali, Director of the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation Centers at the Public Security Directorate, described His Majesty King Abdullah II’s recent General Pardon as a significant gesture of royal benevolence, especially given its timing during the holy month of Ramadan.

Al-Majali noted the positive impact of the pardon among inmates since its announcement, following the King’s directive to the government to implement it promptly.

He emphasized that Major General Dr. Obaidullah Al-Maaytah, Director of Public Security, has instructed full cooperation with judicial authorities to swiftly execute the pardon, ensuring it aligns with the dignity of the royal gesture.

Al-Majali further stated in an interview with Public Security Radio that all legal and administrative procedures pertaining to the amnesty have been diligently addressed by the Public Security Directorate since the issuance of the Royal Decree approving the General Pardon Law of 2024.

He informed that as of this morning, public prosecutors have initiated the release of eligible inmates, with administrative procedures conducted by correctional and rehabilitation centers streamlined to take no more than 15 minutes, covering matters such as the return of belongings.

In conclusion, Al-Majali extended congratulations to the inmates benefiting from the pardon, urging them to view this opportunity as a catalyst for positive change in their lives and within society, encouraging them to distance themselves from criminal activities.
