During a Peace Council meeting attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced that Rabat is committed to deploying Moroccan police personnel to train forces in Gaza, alongside specialized officers who would join an international stabilization force.
The initiative extends beyond security assistance. Morocco also plans to establish a field hospital to provide urgent medical care and to launch a comprehensive program aimed at combating hate speech and promoting tolerance and coexistence. In doing so, Rabat is articulating a dual approach: hard security to restore order, and human security to rebuild trust and social cohesion.
This move represents a shift from traditional political support for the Palestinian cause toward active participation in shaping post-conflict governance. Training local forces implies investment in institutional rebuilding and long-term stability. It also signals Morocco’s intent to be part of the international mechanisms managing the transition from conflict to reconstruction, drawing on its recognized expertise in police training and counter-extremism strategies.
Politically, the expressed alignment with the American vision for peace provides international backing to the initiative, while reaffirming the strategic centrality of the Palestinian Authority and its legitimate institutions. Yet the success of such a mission will depend on broader conditions. Stabilizing Gaza cannot be detached from developments in the West Bank, nor from the existence of a credible political horizon.
