The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announces the postponement of the 4th edition of the International Conference on Public Health in Africa, which was initially scheduled to take place in November 2024 in the Kingdom of Morocco.
This decision follows an official request from Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), addressed to the Moroccan government.
During his official visit to Morocco on Friday, September 13, 2024, where he met with the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Professor Khalid Ait Taleb, Dr. Jean Kaseya highlighted the significant health challenges faced by the African continent due to the outbreak of the MFOX epidemic. This outbreak has affected several African countries, including Morocco, which recently reported its first case of the virus.
Dr. Jean Kaseya further stated that controlling this epidemic requires intensive efforts and international cooperation, given the current health conditions. In this context, he officially requested the Moroccan government to postpone the 4th edition of the International Conference on Public Health in Africa to next year, prioritizing the fight against this health crisis.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection expresses its understanding of this request and reaffirms its full support for the decision to postpone the conference. Under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom of Morocco remains committed to strengthening health cooperation with African countries and international partners to support efforts to combat health crises and achieve health sovereignty across the African continent.
The ministry also states that the new date for the conference will be announced in coordination with the African Union and Africa CDC at a later time.
