Strategic value of security cooperation between Cairo and Rome: The Egyptian Interior Minister is on state visit to Italy as part of vision for stability in Mediterranean and combating human trafficking

In the context of strengthening security cooperation between Egypt and European countries, Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, the Egyptian Minister of Interior, paid an official visit to Italy at the head of a high-level security delegation in response to an invitation from Matteo Piantedosi, the Italian Minister of Interior.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Interior’s Facebook page, an extensive meeting was held, chaired by the two ministers, at the Italian Ministry of Interior headquarters. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two countries’ interior ministries in various security fields and ways to strengthen them, in addition to the latest developments in security issues of common interest.

Italy is interested in raising level of security coordination with Egypt

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that the Italian Minister emphasized during the meeting the importance of Egypt’s pivotal role and position on the regional and international arenas, praising the outstanding efforts of the Egyptian security services and the successive successes in combating terrorism and organized crime in all its forms, especially in the field of combating illegal immigration crimes.

Matteo Piantedozzi also pointed to his country’s interest in expanding the frameworks and mechanisms of security cooperation with the Egyptian police and raising the level of bilateral coordination to confront the security challenges that have emerged following the deterioration of the political situation in a number of countries around the world.

For his part, Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, the Egyptian Minister of Interior, emphasized the depth of the relations that bind the two countries, He also pointed to the importance of strengthening cooperation mechanisms and exchanging experiences in security fields of common interest and joining efforts to contain and undermine all negative phenomena resulting from organized crime in light of the security challenges imposed by the current situation on the regional and international arenas.

The Egyptian minister also visited a number of police sites in Italy, where he praised the level of readiness of those sites, stressing at the end of his visit the continuation of coordination and consultation to confront the security challenges that threaten global security and peace.

A shared vision for security in Mediterranean

In the context of strengthening security cooperation between Egypt and European countries, Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, the Egyptian Minister of Interior, paid an official visit to Italy at the head of a high-level security delegation in response to an invitation from Matteo Piantedosi, the Italian Minister of Interior.

In the same context, the Italian Ministry of the Interior said in a statement on its Facebook account that the dialogue between Rome and Cairo has strategic value as it is in line with a shared vision of stability, security and responsibility in the Mediterranean.

The statement also said that the two capitals are working together against human traffickers by exchanging and intensifying intelligence gathering.
