Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, said she was “fed up” with orders from Washington, as she works to unify the country after the United States arrested its former leader, Nicolas Maduro.
We’ve had enough of Washington’s orders
According to CNN Arabic, she said at an event with oil workers in Puerto La Cruz, which was broadcast by the state-run Venezuelan television channel: “We’ve had enough of Washington’s orders to Venezuelan politicians”.
Rodriguez added: “Let Venezuelan politics resolve our internal disputes and conflicts. Enough interference from foreign powers”.
Continued US pressure
The White House has maintained constant pressure on Venezuela since Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were arrested in a raid in early January and taken to the United States, where the former leader faces several charges.
Rodriguez – Maduro’s former deputy who was backed by US President Trump as interim leader – has insisted in recent weeks that the United States does not rule Venezuela, but at the same time she has not sought confrontation with Washington.
