{"id":1318,"date":"2023-12-06T23:27:04","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T23:27:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/?p=1318"},"modified":"2023-12-08T05:29:32","modified_gmt":"2023-12-08T05:29:32","slug":"spain-pm-well-recognise-palestine-even-without-eu-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/spain-pm-well-recognise-palestine-even-without-eu-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain PM: We\u2019ll recognise Palestine even without EU support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain will move forward with recognising the State of Palestine \u201ceven if [Madrid] does not receive sufficient support\u201d within the European Union,\u00a0<em>Anadolu news agency<\/em>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to the press in Madrid yesterday, Sanchez renewed his vision that \u201cending the conflicts between Israel and Hamas is based on the two-state solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe Palestinian state must be recognised first for the international peace conference initiative to be held under the leadership of Spain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He pointed out that more than 130 countries recognise the State of Palestine, adding that only the US and some European Union countries have not done so yet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is worth making efforts to take initiatives within the European Union to recognise Palestine, and if that does not happen, Spain\u2019s drive to recognise Palestine will continue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sanchez called on the European Union to take the same position on Israel as it did against Russia following its attacks on Ukraine, calling on the leaders of the EU countries to \u201crefrain from the policy of double standards\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf the European Union remains silent regarding Israel\u2019s human rights violations and its occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, it will face the risk of isolation in the international community, and Europe must review its policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"swift-in-viewport\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">He stressed that resolving the existing problems between Israel and Palestine \u201cis in Europe\u2019s moral and geopolitical interest.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain will move forward with recognising the State of Palestine \u201ceven if [Madrid] does not receive sufficient support\u201d within the European Union,\u00a0Anadolu news agency\u00a0reported.
