{"id":4614,"date":"2026-08-01T15:14:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T15:14:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/?p=4614"},"modified":"2026-08-01T15:14:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T15:14:31","slug":"egypt-urges-accurate-reporting-damietta-port-ship-incident-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/egypt-urges-accurate-reporting-damietta-port-ship-incident-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt Urges Foreign Media to Exercise Accuracy in Reporting Damietta Port Incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, has called on foreign media organizations and correspondents operating both inside and outside Egypt to exercise the highest standards of accuracy when reporting on the incident involving the targeting of two vessels at Damietta Port on Egypt&#8217;s Mediterranean coast.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and published on the official website of the State Information Service (SIS), investigations into the incident are still underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement noted that a number of foreign media outlets had circulated inaccurate and misleading reports about the incident. In a separate statement, the State Information Service stressed that it continues to monitor international media coverage of the Damietta Port incident as part of its ongoing engagement with foreign correspondents and international news organizations, providing them with verified, up-to-date information as officially released by the Egyptian government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The government emphasized that Damietta Port, where the incident occurred, continues to operate efficiently and at full capacity across all berths and terminals. Vessel arrivals and departures, cargo handling, and freight operations of all types are proceeding normally and in line with established operational schedules.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The port also continues to provide uninterrupted maritime and logistics services around the clock, meeting the requirements of international shipping lines and port users without disruption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement further highlighted the professionalism of the rescue teams at Damietta Port, which responded immediately after the incident. In a highly precise operation, the teams successfully escorted one of the targeted vessels\u2014a storage vessel\u2014to a position approximately 10 kilometers offshore using four tugboats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, emergency crews managed to contain the fire that broke out aboard the second targeted vessel\u2014an FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit)\u2014as a result of the attack. The vessel was towed approximately 3.5 kilometers offshore by another four tugboats while firefighting operations continued until the blaze was completely extinguished, preventing any risk to the port&#8217;s infrastructure or facilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During telephone conversations with several European leaders, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi addressed the incident. French President Emmanuel Macron, during a phone call on 1 August, inquired about the developments and expressed France&#8217;s solidarity with Egypt. Earlier, on 30 July, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez had also spoken with President El-Sisi, condemning the incident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President El-Sisi informed both leaders that the relevant Egyptian authorities were conducting comprehensive investigations to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the attack.
