{"id":694,"date":"2023-05-17T15:39:38","date_gmt":"2023-05-17T15:39:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/?p=694"},"modified":"2023-05-18T15:42:46","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T15:42:46","slug":"russia-confirms-black-sea-grain-deal-renewed-for-two-months-says-distortions-remain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/russia-confirms-black-sea-grain-deal-renewed-for-two-months-says-distortions-remain\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia confirms Black Sea grain deal renewed for two months, says &#8216;distortions&#8217; remain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Russia confirmed on Wednesday that a deal to allow Ukraine to export its grain safely across the Black Sea, despite Russia&#8217;s\u00a0war\u00a0in Ukraine, had been\u00a0extended\u00a0for two months,\u00a0<i>Reuters<\/i>\u00a0reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said the deal had been extended to help countries in need, but added that Russia&#8217;s overall assessment of the situation regarding the deal had not changed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Russia had threatened to quit the arrangement, agreed last July with the help of the United Nations and Turkiye, this Thursday unless\u00a0a list of conditions were\u00a0met.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The extension of the grain deal is for two months. Thus, there is a chance, not in words, but in deeds, to help ensure global food security. First of all, to help the most needy countries,&#8221; Zakharova told reporters in a video briefing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Russian conditions were designed to counter the effect of some of the economic sanctions imposed by the West after Russia sent its armed forces into Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The demands were:<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The readmission of the Russian agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank) to the international banking payment system, SWIFT;<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The resumption of supplies to Russia of agricultural machinery and spares;<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lifting of restrictions on insurance and access to ports for Russian ships and cargo;<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The reinstatement of a pipeline pumping ammonia from the Russian city of Togliatti to the Ukrainian port of Odessa;<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The unblocking of accounts and financial activities of Russian fertiliser companies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was not clear whether any of the demands had been secured.
