{"id":960,"date":"2023-06-16T19:11:51","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T19:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/?p=960"},"modified":"2023-06-17T19:52:25","modified_gmt":"2023-06-17T19:52:25","slug":"khashoggi-widow-sues-israel-spyware-company-nso-over-phone-hacking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diplomatique.ma\/en\/khashoggi-widow-sues-israel-spyware-company-nso-over-phone-hacking\/","title":{"rendered":"Khashoggi widow sues Israel spyware company NSO over phone hacking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The widow of murdered Washington Post journalist\u00a0<span class=\"person-popover\" data-nid=\"68614\">Jamal Khashoggi\u00a0<\/span>is suing an Israeli tech firm, claiming foreign governments used the company\u2019s spyware to track her movements and forced her into a \u201cstate of constant hyper-vigilance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"person-popover\" data-nid=\"112433\">Hanan Elatr\u00a0<\/span>is accusing the NSO Group of violating federal and Virginia hacking laws and negligence in selling its Pegasus spyware to hostile foreign actors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NSO initially said it had not seen the lawsuit. When the firm was sent a copy, it did not immediately respond. The company \u2013 which markets surveillance technology to intelligence agencies and law enforcement around the world \u2013 has previously denied that its technology was used to hack Khashoggi. He was a Washington Post columnist, who was murdered on the grounds of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s Consulate in Istanbul in 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">US intelligence concluded in 2021 that Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, approved an operation to capture or kill Khashoggi. The Saudi government has denied any involvement by the Crown Prince and has maintained that Khashoggi&#8217;s killing was a heinous crime by a rogue group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saudi use of the Pegasus spying tool has come up in other controversial cases.
