The King calls on Algeria for a “frank and responsible dialogue” and affirms: We take pride in the growing international support for autonomy in the Sahara, and we are committed to finding a consensual solution with no winner or loser
In his speech marking the 26th anniversary of his accession to the throne, His Majesty King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco’s “outstretched hand” policy toward Algeria, expressing the Kingdom’s willingness to reach a political and consensual solution to the Sahara issue — one that involves “no winner and no loser, and preserves the dignity of all parties.”

The King stated:
“While striving to consolidate Morocco’s status as an emerging country, we reaffirm our commitment to openness to our regional environment, particularly our immediate neighbors, in our relationship with the brotherly Algerian people.”
He continued:
“As King of Morocco, my stance is clear and unwavering: the Algerian people are our brothers. They share deep human and historical ties with the Moroccan people — bonds of language, religion, geography, and a common destiny. That is why I have always extended a hand to our brothers in Algeria and expressed Morocco’s readiness for a frank and responsible dialogue — a sincere and brotherly dialogue — about the various outstanding issues between our two countries.”
The King added:
“Our steadfast commitment to extending a hand to our Algerian brothers stems from our belief in the unity of our peoples and our joint ability to overcome this unfortunate situation. We reaffirm our attachment to the Maghreb Union, convinced that it cannot be achieved without the involvement of both Morocco and Algeria, alongside our other brotherly nations.”
On another front, the King said:
“We take pride in the growing international support for the autonomy initiative as the only solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. In this regard, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to our friends in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Portugal for their constructive stances supporting this initiative within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara. These positions bolster the stance of many countries worldwide.”
He concluded:
“While appreciating these positions that uphold legitimacy and justice, we reaffirm our commitment to finding a consensual solution — one with no winner or loser — that safeguards the dignity of all parties involved.”
