Houthi Propaganda Policies: Using the Palestinian Cause as a Pretext to Attack Morocco

In a new attack on Morocco and interference in its internal affairs and sovereign positions, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Ansar Allah group in Yemen, which is classified as a terrorist organization by several countries, launched a verbal assault last Thursday during a televised speech broadcasted on the group’s affiliated channel, Al-Masirah, targeting Morocco’s official positions on the Palestinian issue. He described Morocco as a “traitor and collaborator with the Israeli enemy.”

The leader of the Houthi militia, supported by Iran, stated that “Morocco has increased its economic cooperation with Israel, which is very regrettable. But at the popular level, there is a continuous movement spreading across Moroccan cities,” noting that “the gap is wide between the people of the nation, especially the treacherous and complicit regimes, and their Quran, Islam, values, and morals, which is a serious matter,” according to his statements.

These hostile statements against Morocco were viewed by Borak Shadi Abdel Salam, an international expert in crisis management and conflict analysis, as “a blatant interference by al-Houthi in the strategic choices of the Moroccan state and an affront to the country’s strategic institutions,” asserting that “this falls within Iran’s agenda of using its functional militias in Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, and Lebanon to further its cross-regional ambitions by exploiting the emotional bond of the Moroccan people with the Palestinian cause and their humanitarian solidarity with civilians in Gaza under Israeli aggression.”

Borak added in a statement to Hespress that “these irresponsible statements represent a new Iranian escalation against the Kingdom of Morocco and a desperate attempt to undermine the pioneering roles it plays in defending just causes within the Palestinian dossier in a realistic manner, away from the populist positions of the Iranian regime and its armed tools in the region, which have turned Palestinian bloodshed in Gaza into fuel to power their missiles and drones in service of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s expansionist ambitions.”
